Jerry Abell
I don’t remember a time in my
life when I was not around, on or under a horse. I had my first horse at age
six and have never looked back.
My whole life has been an
apprenticeship it seems from the time I was ten until even today. I continue
to learn more every day about my trade.
I started my carrier shoeing
Tennessee walking horses, American Saddle breeds and draft horses. Then
started to do Quarter horses, Paso fino, Arabs, TB. While in Germany
for five years I shod Hunters, Jumpers and dressage horses.
While in the U.S. Army I was
assigned as Non-Commissioned Officer in charge, and Section Farrier of the
U.S. Army Field Artillery Half Section at Ft. Sill OK. The only full time
horse drawn artillery section in the U.S.
The past thirteen years has been
full time behind the anvil and under a horse. While in KY, I was able to
work with some really great Vets like Steve Wills , President of Kentucky
Vets Association and John O Brian in Bowling Green.
I have also had the chance to
work with some really great Farriers like Paul Turner and Tim Carothers.
Now in Dubai, I am the Farrier
for H.H. Sheik Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum at one of his private stables.
